Before I share the 10 mindset pruning steps, let’s start by addressing a few issues, in order to help you fully understand the point I’m trying to make here…

The way we think is often based on what we see, feel, and believe. They shape us… and makes us conform to a certain mold (mindset).

Transitioning into a “positive thinking” individual does not really lie on what we read or hear about.

It lies in our ability to accept the facts and then make a decision (by ourselves) to change how we think. It’s a personal thing – more internal than external.

When people find themselves at events that has to do with personal development (you know, the usual motivational stuff), there’s always that urge to do what everyone else is doing. It’s more like a “herd mentality” situation (no pun intended).

It’s usually an exciting environment, filled with “positive vibes”; with people whipping up a frenzy about how inspired they are to “take the world by storm.”

The sad truth is, after the whole experience, most people often go back to the same old state they were prior to the event. This is when people drift into a state of constant denial. It can be a depressing situation as well.

So, what really goes wrong?

When someone is focused on changing his/her way of thinking, there are certain truths he/she must accept before venturing into that arena.

Now, introducing the 10 Mindset Pruning steps…

1. Start with the truth… what are you denying? Deal with that and let yourself progress (find closure).

2. Work more on your strengths more than your weaknesses. To get yourself off the hook when in a weak situation, accept that they are there, and seek help from a reliable source (coach, mentor, etc).

3. Avoid doing things because everyone else is doing it. Do it because it means something to you or it will help someone else.

4. Be willing to take massive action, even when it’s going to make you uncomfortable. The journey to success does not understand the concept of “comfort.” Don’t wait for inspiration, do it now!

5. Be very specific on what you want out of your venture (career, job, business, etc) and focus on that. Every other thing will either be a distraction or a drawback.

6. Surround yourself with people who are where you want to be or support your journey. Flip the negativity you get from others into something positive by making sure you always stay on track with your venture.

7. Read like there’s no tomorrow. The more you educate your mind with valuable knowledge, the more it’ll be transformed into a solid bank of wisdom, which will then boost your confidence.

8. Listen to criticisms with an open mind. In order to progress with shaping your thought process, you also need to some form of opposition (in other words, a different perspective). Weigh in on them and filter out what you need and discard what you don’t need.

9. Don’t be ruled by your emotions. In this process, your mind needs to act fast… avoid sentiments or attachments that will bring you down.

10. Always be decisive. A confused mind is often gullible and hardly takes action. Be certain of who you are and what you want. Know when to walk away from what you don’t want.

The decision is always yours to make; not for someone else to make it for you.

So, here’s the bottom line…

What you consume and accept can make or break you.

Happy Mindset Pruning!!
